Two mannerly mother friends of ours have a Mother's Day tradition of leaving their families and heading into the city for a glamorous lunch followed by cocktails, a bit of shopping and an elegant dinner for just the two of them. Now that's a celebration. However you enjoy it - we hope you have a happy mother's day. Cheers, EBB & EHP

For the past few years, the moms in our family have spent the mornings at home (being fed breakfast in bed,no doubt) then off to Newbury Street for some tapas and shopping. This year we went all old school with a family lunch and pretty Mother's Day cake (Dessert Works in Norwood - so so pretty). Do not fear - no one cooked, we just picked up some delicious quiches from Whole Foods and that was that.
I read that a bit quickly and I thought you were describing a weekly ritual, which would have been a bit excessive (to my mind, at least)...
